Carol Trejo Kroeger

What made you become a therapist?

I am a naturally curious person. I am curious about myself, others and the world in general…

I am also passionate about learning. Therapy for me is the perfect combination of the two. It is ability to walk with another person and see their hopes, dreams, fears, pain etc in present day context to determine what’s working, what needs to change and what is holding this person back and why? Learning about what drives people or holds them back can facilitate healing and create change.

What have you learned from client’s?

The profound power of vulnerability and authenticity to tap into the strength and resiliency of the human spirit to heal and create change.

What do you find yourself saying the most?

“Space and Grace” A reminder to us all to create self compassion in any given moment as well as space to consider the next “right” decision/action in our best interest.

What is the way you recharge yourself?

I love to read! It is so relaxing to me and I love getting lost in the story. I also love spending time with my family and fur babies.

What’s your best tip?

Show up to the thing in your life that you have been putting off/avoiding and do the next right thing. Simple (not easy), but empowering.

What is your style of therapy:?

Collaborative. I consider my clients the experts on their lives. I partner with them and use my knowledge about mental and emotional health and wellness to assist them with achieving their goals.

Favorite Quote?

“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they are never weakness.” ~Dr. Brene Brown

Favorite Food?

Chicago Style Pizza!

Best book you’ve read or movie you’ve seen and why?

I have a tie. First, “It’s a Wonderful Life” because of the perspective that life can be (and usually is) messy and our best laid plans can go awry; it is a reminder to not forget to look for the silver lining even in adversity. Second, “The Wizard of Oz” because Dorothy always had what she needed all along, but needed Glinda to remind her. We all need a Glinda in our lives when we “forget” about our strengths and abilities.

Clients you work best with?

I love people that are nervous or anxious about change (what will I find? Can I handle it?), but are willing to show up, curious to explore what’s going on for them and empower themselves to make the decision to change or not. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults with anxiety, ADHD, depression, mood disorders, PTSD/PTS, trauma, identity concerns, chemical dependency, eating disorders and life transitions.

Why did you choose BBHW?

It feels like home. BBHW is well respected in the community and there is a family atmosphere of support and caring. Respect and family are my top 2 values, so it resonated for me and was an easy decision to make to join the team. It is an honor and privilege to be a clinician on the team!
