Dr. Brenda Danielson earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and brings with her over 10 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Danielson completed her doctoral internship at the North Chicago Veterans Medical Center where she received specialized training with a diverse client population. She went on to complete postdoctoral training in a forensics setting and began her career specializing in substance use disorders. It soon became clear the role that trauma, and gender and racial inequities, played in the presenting concerns of her patients.
As a result, Dr. Danielson went on to receive specialized training and experience with trauma related disorders. She has since completed a residency in Women’s Mental Health and is credentialed as a Women’s Reproductive Mental Health Specialist through the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. She has experience in diagnosing gender dysphoria and is proud to serve the LGBT community.
Dr. Danielson works with adults across the lifespan with a specialty in women’s mental health, trauma, grief and loss, and co-occurring disorders. She has extensive experience with reproductive mental health challenges including premenstrual dysphoric disorder, pregnancy and postpartum stressors as well as changes associated with menopause and midlife transitions. Focusing on the civilian, military and veteran communities, Danielson helps the survivors of IPV (Intimate Partner Violence), childhood trauma, traumatic loss and sexual abuse to navigate the stages of trauma recovery. Her skills also include the treatment of substance use and abuse, chronic pain, and insomnia.
To meet the needs and preferences of her clients, Dr. Danielson maintains flexibility in her approach to treatment. She understands the unique strengths, culture and values of her clients and helps them unlock, and nurture, their ultimate wellness potential.
Certified in several evidence-based therapies, including; Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD and trauma recovery, ROSES (Reach Out, Stay Strong, Essentials for new mothers) for Postpartum Depression Prevention and Intervention, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), she is able to offer short-term therapies with solution focused results to those who desire them.
Dr. Danielson also understands the value of process based approaches with experience in Interpersonal Therapy and Mindfulness Based Interventions.
